Piece of Heart locations — Zelda: Skyward Sword HD guide (2024)

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD’s Pieces of Heart are scattered throughout the entire map. Collecting four heart pieces increases your total amount of hearts, and there are 24 hearts to find in the game.

Polygon’s Skyward Sword Piece of Heart location guide shows you where to find all of these power-ups in the game. For each heart piece, we have map locations and detailed instructions.

Faron Woods Pieces of Heart locations

There are three Pieces of Heart in Faron Woods.

After speaking with the elder Kiwi, head north toward the Great Tree. At the south end of the tree is a small ramp leading to a rope attached to a platform on the tree. Walk across the rope to the platform with the Heart Container.

After receiving the Bomb Bag, head back to Faron Woods to this location near the Faron Woods Entry save point. There will be a wall that can be destroyed with bombs. Behind the wall is a Piece of Heart.

After receiving the final Sacred Flame in the Fire Sanctuary, you must return to the Sealed Grounds. Before entering the temple, you’ll find Gorko near the hidden Goddess Wall on the map above.

He’ll tell you about his research and describe one of many objects like a bomb, arrow, or heart. If you draw the object he is describing, not only will the Goddess Wall reward you, Gorko will give you a Heart Piece.

Skyview Temple Pieces of Heart locations

There is one Piece of Heart in Skyview Temple.

After you exit the structure where you receive the Beetle, head to the north side of the tower. Face south and you’ll see a Heart Container behind a cage at the ground level. At the top of the tower is a purple switch you can shoot the Beetle at. Hit the switch at the top of the tower to open the cage.

The Sky Pieces of Heart locations

As you explore The Sky, you’ll find several locations with Heart Pieces.

Upon entering The Lumpy Pumpkin, the camera’s placement will make sure you notice the Piece of Heart on top of the venue’s chandelier. Head to the second floor and roll into the railings to shake the chandelier to drop the heart piece.

After hitting the second Goddess Cube in front of the Skyview Temple entrance in the Deep Woods, a chest will appear on a small, flat island south of the sky entrance to Faron Woods.

After finding the first Goddess Cube in the Temple of Time, fly over to Beedle’s Island. A chest containing a Piece of Heart can be found on top of the island.

After you’ve repaired Scrapper and have gone through the Thunderhead for the first time, you can get a Piece of Heart at Fun Fun Island.

You can find Fun Fun Island just south of the Thunderhead. There you’ll meet Dodoh, a sad clown who needs you to find his Party Wheel. Once you’ve found it in the Lanayru Desert and return it to him, you can play his skydiving minigame. If you can complete dive through all five rings and land on the special blue and pink tile on his game, you’ll win a Piece of Heart.

After getting the second Goddess Cube in Faron Woods, this Piece of Heart chest unlocks inside of an island just east of the Lanayru Desert entry point.

When skydiving down onto the island, head toward the center and land on a ledge above the mushrooms.

Piece of Heart 6

After you received the first Piece of Heart at the Lumpy Pumpkin by knocking down the chandelier, the owner will ask you to make it up to him.

The first step is to get an Empty Bottle. Once you have one, the owner will give you some Hot Pumpkin Soup. You’ll have five minutes to bring it back to the Knight Commander in Skyloft.

The Knight Commander is located at the back of the Sparring Hall. As long as you get the soup to him within five minutes, he’ll ask you to give his thanks to the owner of the Lumpy Pumpkin.

Once you return, the owner will make you do another task.

He’ll ask you to go outside out back during the day to help move some pumpkins into a storage shed. Gently walk the pumpkins into the shed by moving left and right to balance the vegetables. After you’ve delivered them, head back into the Lumpy Pumpkin to get your final task.

To finish up your sidequest in the Lumpy Pumpkin, nap in a bed until it’s nightfall once you’ve received the Goddess Harp.

Speak to the owner and he’ll ask to play a duet with his daughter. Strum your harp to the swaying rhythm of the guests. Once your performance is over, the owner will give you a Piece of Heart.

Skyloft Pieces of Heart locations

There are six Pieces of Heart in Skyloft.

After you find Kukiel, you’ll meet Batreaux who asks you to find Gratitude Crystals. After you deliver him 10 Gratitude Crystals, he’ll give you a piece of heart.

After finding the sixth Goddess Cube in Eldin Volcano, this Piece of Heart chest opens up in Skyloft. To get to it, you need to Water Dragon’s Scale from Lake Floria.

Once you can swim underwater, jump into the lake in Skyloft and swim toward this building. Under the water is a tunnel that leads inside of this building. After emerging from the water you’ll find a chest with rupees and a Piece of Heart.

After you get the Clawshot, climb to the top of the Knight Academy. On the roof, look for the chimney.

Use the Clawshot to get inside the chimney then drop down. Crawl along the tunnel there to grab some rupees then land inside Zelda’s room. Open up her closet to find a Piece of Heart.

After striking the Goddess Cube on top of the Pirate Stronghold, a chest containing a Piece of Heart appears on the floating waterfall island on the east side of Skyloft.

To get up there, use the Clawshot on some vines found on a small, floating piece of land next to the waterfall.

Once on top of that small island, use the Clawshot again to grab the vines on the waterfall island itself. Climb on top and the chest with the Piece of Heart is on the opposite side of the island.

After buying several items from Beedle in Skyloft, he will eventually offer to sell you a Piece of Heart for 1,600 Rupees.

If you visit the Knight Academy in the evening, you can find Fledge doing pushups. Give him two Stamina Potions from Luv’s shop in the bazaar and he’ll give you 5 Gratitude Crystals. To progress Fledge’s quest, go to your room and sleep for another night each time you give him a potion. You’ll need to visit Fledge three nights in a row to complete the first half of this small quest to get a Piece of Heart.

After Fledge gives you his Gratitude Crystals, head to the front of the Sparring Hall during the day after you received the Bow. Fledge will ask you to take part in a minigame where he throws pumpkins in the air and you need to shoot them down. If you score over 600 points, Fledge gives you a Piece of Heart.

Eldin Volcano Pieces of Heart locations

There is one Piece of Heart in Eldin Volcano.

When you first encounter the Pyrup enemies with skulls on their heads — near a bridge made out of bones — travel up the cliffs behind them. Run up and around to find a piece of heart near a ledge at the end of the cliffs.

Lanayru Desert Pieces of Heart locations

There is one Piece of Heart in Lanayru Desert.

After speaking with the robot near the Goddess Cube in the Temple of Time, it will update your map to show you what the area looked like in the past. As you explore the northern area of the Lanayru Desert, Fi explains that some areas in the quicksand can be walked on easily, as the sand is covering walls that are barely hidden by the sand.

Using this information, chart a path to the northeast of the map. If you pay attention to the layout of the hidden walls under the sand, you can see that a path leads toward a breakable wall.

Walk across the path hidden in the sand to place a bomb at the crack in the wall. Once the wall has been broken up, follow the tunnel past some electric slime enemies. On the other side is a chest with a Piece of Heart in it.

Sandship Pieces of Heart

There is one Piece of Heart at the Sandship.

After receiving the Bow, you will do a section that requires you to shoot arrows at eyes on the masts of the Sandship to lower ziplines so you can travel across them. After getting to the end of the zipline section, you will end up at the back of the ship.

Before dropping back down to the deck, you can find a Clawshot target off the tail of the ship.

Grapple to that Clawshot target then drop onto the small platform below it. Then drop down once again to a lower level where you’ll find a Goddess Wall and a chest to the northern end containing a Piece of Heart.

Shipyard Pieces of Heart

There is one PIece of Heart at the Shipyard.

After defeating the Abyssal Leviathan Tentalus, you can head back to the Shipyard to take part in a minecart minigame called Rickety Coaster.

To start the minigame, speak to Gortram the Goron near the entrance of the Shipyard.

He’ll ask you what you’re doing back in the Shipyard and asks if you’d like to have a little fun. Agree and he’ll explain the rules of the minecart minigame. The controls are the same as the first time you road the minecart during your first visit to the Shipyard.

Each ride will cost you 20 Rupees. To get the Piece of Heart, you must complete the “Heart stopping!” track in under 65 seconds.

Fire Sanctuary Piece of Heart

There is one Piece of Heart at the Fire Sanctuary.

Partway through the Fire Sanctuary, you’ll run across a Mogma named Plats. Chase them down inside the tunnels with your Mogma Mitts. Once you catch them, you will get a Piece of Heart.

Volcano Summit Piece of Heart

There is one PIece of Heart at Volcano Summit.

After you receive the Mogma Mitts, you can find a burrowing spot in the Volcano Summit. Head back to the second wall of flame extinguished near the Gossip Stone. Burrow under the ground to a tunnel with one exit.

On the other side, you’ll find a small cave with three fairies and a Piece of Heart.

Lanayru Gorge Piece of Heart

There is one Piece of Heart at Lanayru Gorge.

After giving the Lightning Dragon Lanayru the Life Tree Fruit, they will teach you the third part of the Song of the Hero.

Return to them later in the game and they’ll offer the chance to do battle. This challenge is a boss rush mode where you must defeat multiple bosses from earlier in the game. If you defeat enough opponents without stopping, you will be rewarded a Piece of Heart.

Thunderhead Piece of Heart

There is one Piece of Heart inside the Thunderhead.

After getting the first Goddess Cube at the Volcano Summit, this chest will appear inside the Thunderhead. You will find this cube resting on a wooden platform hanging off the western side of this island.
